What are phrasal verbs in English?
Phrasal verbs are combinations of a verb + particle (preposition or adverb) that create a completely new meaning. For example, "give up" means to stop trying - a meaning you cannot guess from "give" alone. Research shows that the top 150 phrasal verbs (the PHaVE List) cover 83% of all phrasal verb usage in everyday English.
